Now in its third year Essential returns for 2008 with its most stellar line up yet. If you want to check out the next wave of Australia’s hottest bright young things then this is the place to be. The organisers of Essential, since their first event has presented crowds with a virtual who’s who of what’s hot now. Acts like Midnight Juggernauts, Dappled Cities, Expatriate, Children Collide, Old Man River, Whitley & Young & Restless have performed over the past two years at Essential and gone on to bigger and better things.
 
This year we are beside ourselves with excitement as we announce our headline act – the lads from REGURGITATOR who are fresh from touring Australia on the Big Day Out & at the top of their game with their current album “Love & Paranoia” & sell out tours across the country.

Add to that our first ever international artist in highly acclaimed electronic gurus RATATAT, as well as Shocking Pinks (NZ).Joining them on the 1st announcement are Grafton Primary,Dardanelles,The Devoted Few,Shocking Pinks (NZ),The E.L.F featuring Darren from Gerling (Last years Essential headliners), Gaslight Radio (duo),The John Steel Singers,The Seabellies, The Silents out of WA and Reptiles.
 
But the tingliest happy days feeling comes from the knowledge that 2008 will be the first time Essential will ply its trade in Melbourne. And where better to present it then the iconic Espy Hotel in St Kilda, across numerous stages and a public holiday the day after so everyone can go live the dream & have a sleep in.

Sydney once again takes place across three venue spaces - The Gaelic Theatre, Four Provinces (The Gaelic Club upstairs space) and The Madison Hotel - (Devonshire Street, Surry Hills) which will be a quite space for acoustic based artists.
