Melbourne is well represented once again (come on Australia…get voting for your state!) with rockers BORNE and CALLING ALL CARS. Both acts have been working hard for the past few years, recording tracks and touring nationally - BORNE receiving a huge amount of overseas attention for their 2007 debut album release of Loss of Signal, while CALLING ALL CARS have just finished demos for their long awaited debut.
Proving what The JD Set is all about, dynamic eight piece CASUAL PROJECTS are a mash musical genre collaborative from our nation’s capital Canberra! Recently releasing their debut album, No Rest, their strong reputation is the reason they were voted in by the public!

Jack Daniel’s will stage The JD Set four times throughout 2008, giving a total of 12 up-and-coming local acts the chance to tour Australia before the year is out. It means music fans across the country will get to experience an unprecedented smorgasbord of awesome live talent that Australia has to offer. For all the hot new Australian music acts involved, The JD Set has every potential to be the start of something huge, the chance to become one of the biggest music acts in the country.
At the end of the year, once music fans across the country have had the chance to personally experience all the fantastic fresh live acts that The JD Set has had to offer, fans will once again be put to the vote, this time to pick their overall favourite live act from all of The JD Sets combined.
The winner of The JD Set Award 2008 will be announced during a live broadcast on Nova, which will include a performance of one of the winning band’s songs. As well as the kudos of the award, the triumphant act will receive a further boost to their career by way of a money-can’t-buy industry prize that, along with the access to scores of new fans through The JD Set, will help their continued journey towards becoming true Australian music legends.
A key element of The JD Set will be involvement with Support Act Limited (SAL) Australia’s Music Industry Benevolent Fund which provides relief and assistance to members of the Australian music industry in need or suffering hardship.

Melbourne rock act BORNE formed in 2003 and in 2004 headed to Byron Bay to lay down tracks in Studio 301 under the guidance of ARIA nominated producer Michael Stangel. Now with 2 EPs under their belt their album Loss of Signal was released in July 2007. In recent months, Borne have had astounding international success and recognition, including breaking into the US Billboard charts and after performing at the world's biggest and most prestigious music conference last year, SXSW in Texas, Borne were invited to London to perform at three of the UK's biggest outdoor festivals where they played to massive crowds at Glastonbury, Wireless and Hyde Park Calling to rave reviews. To top things off for Borne returned home to take the coveted Australian Independent Artist of The Year at the 2007 Musicoz Awards.

Their blazing self-titled debut EP has been a huge hit on the national youth broadcaster Triple J. After tours supporting the likes of Gyroscope, Kisschasy and Shihad as well as headlining their own huge shows nationally, the band recently headed back on the road again, this time with Adelaide rockers the Hot Lies. The band’s self-titled EP was recorded last year and included the hit Hey You and Haydn, who began playing guitar as a ten year old and taught his brother James how to play the drums, is ecstatic with the demos for their long-awaited debut album.

Recorded at Electric Avenue Studios in Sydney, it was produced by Buchman AKA Tony Buchen (Macromantics, Kid Confucius) and mastered by Chris Gehringer (Talib Kweli, Timberland, Nelly Furtado, Blackalicious and Bootsy Collins) at Sterling Sound Studios, New York. Their blend of Hip Hop, Jazz, Soul and Funk highlights strong vocal abilities and musicianship. with four MC’s and a virtuoso soul vocalist the band have a formula which plays out in most tunes, raps driving the verses and has seen them build on an already strong fan base. With kudos to their name already, such as reaching the top 5 in the Musicoz ‘Best Live Recording’ category and also being named a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition, the band has already broken into the international market, with a distribution deal in Japan for the debut release.
